Asante-Mampong records slow start to biometric voter's registration

The response to the compilation of  a national biometric voter’s roll was not enthusiastic in the Asante-Mampong Municipality  on the first day of the   exercise.  A few people were seen standing in queues at a number of registration centres visited by the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

Biometric Voter Registration Gets To Slow Start In Kumasi

The biometric voter registration got to a slow but peaceful start in the Kumasi Metropolis on Saturday. People were seen standing in queues, relaxed and patiently waiting for their turn while political party agents, mainly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sat quietly and observed things.

Biometric Registration: Kassena Nankana residents boycott exercise

Residents of Akologo Darbo in the Kassena Nankana district of the Upper East Region have boycotted the ongoing voter biometric registration exercise. According to Citi News’ Upper East regional correspondent Agana Bawa, the residents of the community have also threatened not to take part in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls in December.

EC takes education on biometric registration to KAIPTC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has held a day’s sensitization program for the staff of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC) on the biometric registration exercise. The exercise which is expected to takeoff from Saturday March 24 to Saturday May 5 2012 will be carried out in four phases in all the regions.

Biometric registration: EC pushes for LI to demand proof of identity

The Electoral Commission is pushing for the passage of a Legislative Instrument (LI) which will require persons wishing to register during the upcoming voters registration exercise to provide a proof of identity before they are registered.

The proposed LI which is currently before Parliament, will mandate Ghanaians to provide either their passport, national health insurance card, national identity cards or drivers license before they are allowed to register and obtain the new biometric voters registration card.
