'Let My Vote Count Alliance' Still defiant…. As Madina Police grants them bail

Members of the ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ have insisted they will continue with the group’s crusade and activities to educate Ghanaians on the high profiled petition at the Supreme Court involving a challenge of the election of President Mahama by Nana Akufo-Addo and Co. This is in spite of a recent invitation by the Police after the groups hugely attended rally at the Taifa Noway park.

“Nothing and no one, and not even the police will intimidate us from pursuing the course that we have chosen for ourselves, we will continue to demand for extensive reforms in the EC, we will continue to insist that the electoral rules are applied universally in Ghana such that every valid vote cast will count”, said David Asante, a member of the group after its long closed door meeting at the request of the Madina Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Anderson Ackah at the latter’s office yesterday in the company of its lawyers Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Mike Oquaye Jnr.

The meeting between the LMVCA group and the Madina Police took place as a result of an invitation by the police to the group after its maiden outdoor event at the Noway Park, Taifa on 28th January, 2013.

New Statesman investigations reveal the police took a statement from Mr. James Kwabena Bomfeh of the CPP, a member of the LMVCA who was not even present at the 28th of January event that took place at Taifa. Ironically, he was later said to have been placed on a self recognizance bail even though he had not been placed under arrest nor charged with any offense. The basis of the invitation of the group’s members is one that seems to baffle the group and its lawyers.

“is there selective justice going on here queried Lawyer Mike Oquaye Jnr, why have they invited some members of the group that were not even at the said rally and at the same time stopped at inviting Prof Mike Oquaye, Madam Adwoa Sarfo MP for Dome Kwabenya and other notable speakers at the event”, he charged.

Members of the LMVC that were seen wearing branded T-Shirts of the group at the Madina Police Station could number about one hundred. Other notable faces that thronged the Police Station included Abu Ramadan of the PNC, Charles Owusu of the PPP and Sammy Awuku of the NPP. The alliance has already held its second outdoor activity at the Koforidua Legion Hall and is billed to have its next at the Club Felisa’s forecourt in Community 7, Tema on Friday 8th February, 2013.
